National Doughnut Day | June 1
What’s better than a doughnut? A FREE doughnut!
Who knew National Doughnut Day dated way back to 1938? Yep, it’s not just something the doughnut industry came up with! When the Salvation Army in Chicago served doughnuts to soldiers during World War 1, National Doughnut Day was created. This day was to honor the members who traveled overseas to volunteer and serve the doughnuts to soldiers. Women volunteers were soon called “Doughnut Dollies”. Although I love a good history lesson I don’t need an excuse to celebrate this delicious confection! Whether sugared, sprinkled, dusted, drizzled, jelly filled, or cream filled, this indulgent treat should be celebrated everyday!
Back to the FREE part! Many doughnut places are offering free doughnuts to commend this special holiday.
