What’s better than a backyard barbeque for Father’s Day? A road trip that happens to coincide with National Bourbon Day that takes you and your Pops to one of these badass Texas Bourbon/Whiskey distilleries. Now we’re talking, right?
Texas is home to a number of top-notch distilleries, that will have you and your dad swishing and pulling and having some good old man time together. No matter if you’re seeking a smooth bourbon, some strong moonshine or a hearty whiskey, there is a Texas distillery on this list that is sure to please. Bottoms up, boys!
First Stop: Fort Worth – Whiskey Ranch | Firestone & Robertson Distilling Co.
Firestone and Robertson Distilling Co. makes some of the best whiskey and bourbon in the Lone Star State. Whiskey Ranch is This distillery is known for its Texas Blended Whiskey that has a refined flavor which rivals more popular whiskies. Whiskey Ranch sits on the grounds of a historic golf course, Glen Garden Country Club, where Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson met each other and played together. Dubbed as an immersive experience you’ll never forget, Whiskey Ranch is a vast property that has lots to do and see. Call before you head out to make sure they’re open, but currently, the website shows to be open Tuesday through Thursday 12pm-5pm and on Fridays from 12pm-6pm. The Tavern is open on Thursday & Friday during store hours.
Stay in a funky little bungalow or art house instead of a stuffy old hotel to feel like a local. Fulfill your need for Father’s Barbeque at Heim BBQ. And take a stroll around Magnolia Avenue to check out all that is cool and hip in Funky Town.

SiNaCa Studios – Go for the cool art, but stay for a glass blowing class.
Studio 80 – The ultimate throwback to the 1980’s and people watching galore, but the tunes are so groovy you’ll be cutting a rug in no time.
Second Stop: Waco – Balcones Distilling
Back in 2008, this little gem got it’s start in an old welding shop under a bridge in Waco. Let’s talk all things Texan, and we’ll start with Balcones Distilling’s Rumble spirit, derived from Texas only ingredients, oooohh weee boys! The Tasting Room is open Wednesday – Saturday but you gotta book your tour in advance online. It’s a fun and tasty way to learn about the distilling process while tasting their goods.

Waco Hippodrome – Take in a flick or a concert at this historic theater.
Heart o Texas Speedway – You, Dad and live stock car races? What’s cooler? The tire throwing contest on Friday, June 15th.
Next Stop: Dallas- Texas Spice
Texas Spice is honoring National Bourbon Day, and dear old Dad with a three course meal paired with the perfect bourbon flight and bourbon sampling throughout Father’s Day weekend. Wild Bill’s Western Store– a must when visiting Dallas. Buy Dad a cool new pair of boots or cowboy hat. The moment you enter you realize it is not just a store, it’s a event. Experience the rich Texas Heritage and inhale the smell of leather as you browse the extensive western apparel.
